INTERNATIONAL STUDIES

About the Department

The International Studies functions as an integrated operating system. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a well-rounded knowledge of the United States, China, international politics, and international trade. The department aims to cultivate local experts with specialized knowledge who understand international affairs and have an integrated perspective, and international affairs professionals who have the passion and ability to effectively promote justice, communication, goodwill, and cooperation in the international community. In order to cultivate a sense of internationalism through local experiences, we operate an overseas field study (overseas training) program.

Major Course Guide

International Relations Theory

International relations refers to the totality of relations among non-state actors such as international organizations and transnational corporations, including political, economic, and military relations among states. The main objective of this course is to study the different perspectives on international relations and the theories underlying them, to discuss critical and alternative perspectives, and to raise awareness of international political issues.

International Trade Theory

This course is a major elective in the International Trade Track of the School of International Studies and deals with the causes, forms, and effects of tangible and intangible economic exchanges between countries from an economic theory perspective. Students in the International Trade Track study basic trade theory and then analyze existing domestic and international trade policies based on this course.

Globalization and Nationalism

This course examines the interplay of globalization and nationalism, two important phenomena that characterize the 21st century, to consider the issues facing humanity and the way forward.

Political Economy of South Korea

This course examines politics and economics, which interact closely at the international level, through the case of Korea. We will examine from historical, theoretical, and comparative perspectives how domestic and international factors have shaped Korea's political and economic system and national destiny from the Joseon Dynasty to the present.

Understanding Digital Commerce

This course covers the current status and practice of digital trade at the corporate and national levels, including historical and recent developments in digital trade within the international trading system, trends in digital enterprises and the theory and practice of digital trade policies, and the evolution of relevant international norms.

International Cooperation and Development

This course examines theories of cooperation among various actors in the international arena and explores the history, current issues, and future solutions to cooperation and justice for developing countries.

Academic Activities

Council on Foreign Relations

The Diplomacy and Security Society was founded in 2006 and consists of presentations and discussions on diplomacy and security based on international relations. It is a great opportunity for students to share their endless passion for academics through active exchanges between seniors and juniors in addition to learning. The department's activities include clubs, conferences, student government activities, and the International Studies Forum. There are various departmental activities, such as the New Student Learning Center planning group, the emergency committee activities that have replaced the student council, and club activities such as basketball and soccer; through them, students can learn to make friends and develop a sense of belonging to the department.
